Wood Peckers

Wood Peckers are medium-sized birds mostly colored red, black, and white. There are many types of Wood Peckers including the Ivory Billed Wood Pecker, the Pale Billed Wood Pecker, and many others. Pale Billed Wood Peckers have white stripes down their shoulders and back. Ivory Billed Wood Peckers are one of the largest Wood Peckers in the world, but scientists believe they could be extinct. Were I live, we mostly see the Hairy Wood Pecker and the Northern Flicker.

A good friend

A good friend is someone who has a good heart. This means thinking of others. A good friend also has faith. This means trusting God, and praying for a friend who is struggling. A good friend is also grateful. This means thanking others for what is given to them and being grateful for what they already have. Being a good friend also means giving grace and forgiving others for what they do wrong because it is the right thing to do. Last Being a good friend also means helping others when they are in need.

My best friends moved to Michigan, but we get to talk to them on FaceTime and we’re going to see them in the summer.

Swans

By Sawyer W.

Swans are large white birds, some are black. Swans can weigh thirty pounds and are the largest bird in North America. Swans are part of the family Anatidae within the genus Cygnus. They lay three or four eggs a year, and if their young don’t learn how to fly their left behind and die. They go back to their home and live the rest of their lives there.

Geese

Geese are black and white birds. Females are called Geese and males are called Ganders. Geese forage in ponds and lakes by sticking their heads in the water and their rear ends in the air. When it gets cold geese migrate south, flying in a “V” formation to save their energy for the flight.

Mallard Ducks

Mallard Ducks have a green head, yellow beak, brown chest, blue colored spot near rear, and orange feet. Female Mallard Ducks can be hard to tell apart from other ducks. Some other ducks look almost exactly like a female Mallard only with a green spot instead of blue. That is one way to tell apart a mallard from other ducks.

Great Horned Owls

By Sawyer W.

Great Horned Owls are very large birds. The Great Horned Owl, also known as the Tiger Owl or the Hoot Owl, is a large bird native to the Americas. It is an extremely adaptable bird with a vast range and is the most widely distributed true owl in the country. We had a Great Horned Owl eat one of our chickens, and we got a close up view of him at night. They are very quiet predators which makes it easy for them to sneak up on their prey.
